Many southern transplants that come to live in Kentucky will call anything that falls from the sky “Snow” but I think this is really a dilution of what Snow with a capital ‘S’ really means. For frozen precipitation to be properly called Snow it must completely cover the surface on which it falls. Preferably this precipitation must be at least an inch deep of powder. Anything less is really demeaning.
The photo taken today to the right is the result of flurries that fell over night. As you can see the roof tops are only partially covered and there was only enough precipitation to fill-in the cracks in the parking lot.
Happy New Year! Let’s hope 2010 sucks less than 2009 did.
Archos 5
I said last week I would be posting an mp3 of that week’s sermon if I could get my Archos 5 device working correctly. The result surpassed my best expectations of what I thought the FM radio accessory was capable of. The microphone is so good that it was able to pick up Pastor Latham’s preaching even though he walked several feet away from the pulpit. The only fault in the recording was when the pastor stood directly behind the pulpit with the mic turned up too hot. In parts, at the beginning and the end there is a lot of distortion.
I’ve been terribly busy at work dealing with Christmas. Today was the first time I have come home before nightfall for the past two weeks. Looking forward two days from now, I eagerly anticipate opening my Christmas presents.
I’m old enough that Christmas is not a surprise anymore. In November, I decided what I wanted and ordered it. The object in question is an Archos 5 60GB tablet. The device is comparable to an iPod Touch. I’m really excited about the Archos because I have watched the new touch devices come on the market. I think the technology has developed enough that I won’t get buyer’s remorse when they release next year’s model. The device I bought is actually last year’s model. The current model is much more expensive and it runs Google’s Android operating system. In addition to the device itself I also bought an attachment that includes a microphone to record speech with. If it works like I want it to I’ll be posting mp3’s of sermons from church.
Unfortunately, it seems I damaged my camera during the parade this year. Temperatures were below freezing this morning and while I was still shooting pictures the camera stopped working. I got home and transferred the photos on to my laptop like normal but the camera still fails to capture any image at all.
Update: I made a quick trip to OfficeMax and bought a new Olympus. I didn’t like spending the money but I can’t go without my camera.
Sigh… Well, I will share with you what I did capture.
A Billion dollars is a lot of money for the average Kentuckian. It all becomes play money in the halls of Frankfort, though.
Union leaders want the task force to recommend increasing the unemployment tax for employers. Business leaders prefer a wait-and-see approach on any tax increaseand perhaps a reduction in benefits.
With a Democratic governor, I couldn’t guess who is going to win this struggle.
Currently, the state pays out 79 weeks of benefits, although Beshear announced Tuesday the state is working to quickly implement a new federal law that allows 20 additional weeks of payments to those who have already exhausted their benefits. In addition, Beshear recently signed an agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor to temporarily increase the weekly payout by $25.
Sigh… Why do I bother depositing my check at all? The Democrats might lose the next election cycle but does that mean anyone learned why we have the problems we do?
Unfortunately, I think Kentucky is headed toward higher taxes and a very poor job environment. Both of which advance President Obama’s goals of putting more people on welfare. I would say Kentucky needs to learn from California’s experience and not go down that road but those Democrats know exactly what they are doing. The whole country is being methodically bankrupted by our own leaders for a very specific purpose.
It’s so bad in California that even the State Treasurer has come out and spoken the obvious.
Kentucky voters need to listen up. Your elected leaders aren’t stupid they do what they do deliberately.
For sure, I’ll be taking my vehicle to the repair shop for an inspection. From the newscast, at least six people have had their cars severely damaged because of all that cr@p in the fuel.
