I didn’t take too many photos of this year’s Christmas parade. After last year’s incident, the camera stayed in my pocket most of the time except for the few times you see below.

In the video below you’ll see the Hopkinsville High Band marching past followed close behind by the JROTC students.

During the previous weekend, I was up to my neck in a sea of preteens. I was asked to lead a group of children through vacation bible school to each of their stations. The whole experience was an ordeal best left as an annual event because it takes a year to recover from it.

Remember what Independence day means; despite what our post-American President says. America is unique among all the nations of the world.

Below are a selection of photos from the West KY State Fair’s fireworks display. I have many more posted on Picasa. Using a small table top tripod I was able to keep the camera steady. The Olympus camera I have offers a ‘fireworks’ mode for long exposures. The first three photos below were taken in total darkness yet details of objects on the ground come through very clearly. My favorite among all of last night’s pictures is number 84. The photo has a fire-from-the-sky slash post-apocalyptic style.

Snowy Farmland

I had a chance on Tuesday to take some photography of an open field on the outer limits of Hopkinsville. The barn and buildings in the distance belong to the Amish that live in the area.

While I was writing the blog post for the church I found a passage in the book of Job that speaks directly to the winter weather we have received. It was very fitting to post on a day when church services were being canceled wholesale.

HamFest in Cadiz was noticably cooler/wetter this year than last. I was there at 10 o’clock Saturday and the Sun hadn’t yet broke through the clouds. I walked all of the booths but didn’t find anything that appealed to me.

Walking down the main drag was very entertaining though.

The Pigs of Trigg County

Last year, when I visited the Trigg County Ham Festival I did notice the many pig statues that appear in Cadiz but didn’t focus on them. The Unusual Kentucky blog wondered where they come from. I think Cadiz has collected enough of these that there is probably a viable breeding population.
