Veteran’s Day Parade

Posted by – November 8, 2008

The Veteran’s Day Parade was today in Hopkinsville. Readers should know that I was standing on Virginia street but the majority of the crowd was on ninth street around the corner. Just in case you wonder why the streets seem to be so deserted. Enjoy.

Old First City Bank Open House

Posted by – September 18, 2008

Renovations on the old First City Bank are now complete. The building was made open to the public before the building became occupied. Seeing that this was going to be a unique opportunity I brought my camera. The first floor will be occupied by Probation and Parole. While the second floor was converted into apartments.

To hear more about the renovations you can listen online to a interview by WKDZ. The Prairie Bluestem blog has a few pictures from earlier this year. Among the things, that stood out for me was the view of the streets below and the bank vault. Enjoy!

Gimp Magic

BrakeBlog original cropped image

This is the original color image. The camera is a Canon Powershot A300.

BrakeBlog desaturated image

This variation shows what can be done with layer masks in the GIMP. To create this effect, I copied the original image into a separate layer and removed the red panic button using a layer mask. Then it was simple enough to invert the mask in yet another layer to isolate the panic button from everything else. I desaturated the layer excluding the panic button and increased the saturation in the layer that isolated the panic button.

BrakeBlog high contrast variation

Continuing from the previous image this one I increased the contrast and brightness of just the panic button excluded layer.
