NEW WAVE COMMUNICATIONS IS PURCHASING LOW POWER HOPKINSVILLE TV STATION WKAG EFFECTIVE MAY 1ST, WITH NEW WAVE SALES AND MARKETING MANAGER STEVE BUTTRAM TO BECOME THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE STATION.
I think it’s rather obvious that something had to happen or else WKAG would shutdown completely. What does this mean for the station’s news reporting? On the positive side, the station will now get a major upgrade in equipment/manpower resulting in a better quality broadcast. I’m hoping for a more robust web presence for WKAG.
The concerns I have for WKAG revolve around New Wave’s relationship with city government. During the AT&T U-verse controversy, the city failed in maintaining neutrality. Even to the point of suing AT&T to prevent U-verse from being activated. New Wave has already proven they will be very aggressive in defending their interests. If this includes manipulating the news coverage then the usefulness of WKAG will be very limited.
KEMP AND REGAN SIGNED THE AGREEMENT FOLLOWING THE SPECIAL MEETING WITH ATTORNEY DOUG WILLEN PREPARED TO FILE DISMISSAL PAPERS IN FEDERAL COURT TODAY (TUESDAY). MEANWHILE, NEWWAVE PRESIDENT AND CEO, JIM GLEASON TOLD THE NEWS EDGE HE HAS NOT HAD A CHANCE TO THOROUGHLY INSPECT THE AGREEMENT, BUT HE IS STILL CONFUSED AS TO WHY AT&T REFUSES TO MAKE THE SAME COMMITMENT TO HOPKINSVILLE THAT NEWWAVE MADE. HE ADDED THAT THE COMPANY WILL BE TALKING WITH LEGAL COUNCIL TODAY (TUESDAY) TO DISCUSS ITS PENDING LAWSUIT.
The next day Mr. Gleason was still steamed enough to say that AT&T got a “sweet heart deal”.
For sure, I’ll be taking my vehicle to the repair shop for an inspection. From the newscast, at least six people have had their cars severely damaged because of all that cr@p in the fuel.
The Jeffers Bend “Take Kids Fishing” event was today. I didn’t participate in dropping bait into the water but was quite satisfied being the resident photographer. I saw many of the kids have excellent luck in catching blue gill large and small, even some non-fish creatures. The river and pond was stocked before hand with fish and one large catfish as the grand prize. WKAG has a pretty good report summarizing what TKF is about.
